My oil temps were in the high 150 degrees during my last flight. They really needed to be in the 180 in order to burn off any water that would get into the system. Some people install some fancy louvers, but I decided to just keep it basic. I used some metal tape to block off the oil cooler to test what the optimal combination is. Here I am blocking off 4 of the 7 ducts through the Stewart Warner oil cooler. Well, after the first flight the tape just pulled off of the oil cooler. So I blocked it with a piece of aluminum sheet taped on. That did the trick.


I plugged in the oil sump heater and tossed on a queen sized down feather filled old comforter. Jeeze, does that look like it's pee stained? No comment.....
