Today was an exciting RVing day....but not for my project. Local RV-7 builder Bill Cloughley (www.pilotbill.com) was attaching his wings permanent and asked me to help out. In no time we had both of his wings on. I was a little concerned about putting in the high tolerance bolts because I have heard some stories about how much of a bear they were. However, they ended up being no big deal. We just kept on whacking at them with a hammer and they went in. Bill's workmanship is really top notch. In no time he will have a beautiful bird flying around the great skies of Maryland!

I only had a little left to do on the exhaust hangers, so tonight I made the cross member. I am pretty sure the exhaust is 100% done.

I want to finish up the FAB this weekend too, so I painted the top plate, attachment plate and some other doodads white.

Whats this little gizmo?

Its three pieces of material on top of each other used to secure the top cowl pins. I have some 032 on the firewall, then some .125, then some 063 on top. I put the 032 on the bottom so the hinge pins wouldn't wear into the firewall. The .125 was about the thickness of the hinge pins. Well, the hinge pins were actually 090, and .125 was the closest I could get. The 063 on the top keeps the hinge pins in place. Works really well.

I trimmed the ends of the hinge pins to 1/2" below the bracket.
