I finished up the EIS cutout tonight. I think this could be the last hole that will be visible in the panel. Square holes are such a pain to get right.

Next was onto the round instruments. At the last minute I looked up the dimensions on the TruTrak ADI and found it was a little taller than I thought. I am really glad I looked it up because I needed to move the holes down 1/16" from where I originally planned them. I planned 3/4" spacing between the instruments. Once everything was laid out I drilled three 5/8" holes using a guide on a drill press.

Using a panel knockout punch I borrowed from a local friend, I punched out the three 3 1/8" holes. I then drilled the pilot hole for the 2 1/4" (autopilot).

DOH!!!! The panel punch interferes with the bend in the panel! Arg! Well this is a total bummer. I have a couple ideas of how I can fix this. One is to use a fly cutter. Another is to move the hole up to make the center even with the other round instruments (I aligned the bottom of the holes...I thought it looked better, hence the interference). Time to call it a night and sleep on it.
